Selection Process

1. Shortlisting of Applications

  • The Integrated Headquarters of the Ministry of Defence (Army) shortlists applications based on the vacancy-to-call-up ratio for each engineering discipline or stream.

  • Cut-offs are applied to the cumulative percentage of marks obtained by candidates up to the final semester/year (or up to the 6th semester for engineering degrees / 8th semester for B.Architecture).

  • Note : Candidates must ensure their marks are accurately converted using their university's official CGPA-to-percentage conversion formula, as discrepancies will lead to the cancellation of candidature.

2. Allotment of Selection Centre & Dates

  • Shortlisted candidates must log in to the official website (www.joinindianarmy.nic.in) to select their Service Selection Board (SSB) interview dates and centers on a first-come, first-served basis.

  • Once selected, the SSB center and date cannot be changed.

3. SSB Interview (Two-Stage Selection Procedure)

  • Shortlisted candidates are called to one of the selection centers—Prayagraj (UP), Bhopal (MP), Bengaluru (Karnataka), or Jalandhar (Punjab).

  • Stage-I : Consists of Officer Intelligence Rating (OIR) tests, Picture Perception, and Discussion Test (PP&DT). Candidates who fail Stage-I are returned on the same day.

  • Stage-II : Lasts for up to 5 days and includes psychological tests, group testing officer (GTO) tasks, and a personal interview.

4. Medical Examination

  • Candidates recommended after Stage-II undergo a medical examination.

  • The validity of the SSB medical examination is 270 days from the date of the Special Medical Board (SMB) to the course joining date.

5. Merit List & Joining Pre-Commission Training Academy (PCTA)

  • A stream-wise merit list is prepared strictly based on the marks obtained by candidates at the SSB interview.

  • Tie-breaker criteria: If candidates secure equal SSB marks, the older candidate is ranked higher; if age is also equal, the candidate with a higher graduation percentage is placed higher.

  • Medically fit candidates falling within the notified stream-wise vacancies receive joining letters for training at the Indian Military Academy (IMA), Dehradun.
