CWG 2026: Indian judoka Harsh Singh won the men’s 60kg gold medal at the Commonwealth Games (CWG) 2026 after defeating Australia’s Joshua Katz in the final on Friday. His victory came after Asmita Dey had earlier won gold in the women’s 48kg judo final, helping India secure two historic judo gold medals at the CWG Games.
Harsh Singh Wins Men’s 60kg Judo Gold
According to ESPN, Harsh won the bout by Waza-Ari (10-0). Harsh showed strong defence throughout the final and did not allow Katz to score early. The contest remained closely fought for most of the bout. At the 3:19 mark, Harsh produced the winning move by executing a well-timed throw and pinning Katz to earn a Waza-Ari, which secured the gold medal.
‘Happy To Win Medal For Country’: Harsh Dedicates Gold To Mother
Speaking about his victory, Harsh said, “I am feeling really happy to win this medal for the country... We prepared to win today... I dedicate this medal to my mother... If qualified, I will prepare well for the Asian Games and give my best to win the medal.”
With this victory, Harsh became India’s second judo gold medallist at the Commonwealth Games 2026. India has now won five gold medals and 19 medals overall at the Games, including nine silver and five bronze. Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated both athletes for their victories at the CWG Games, calling it a “historic day for Indian Judo.”

PM Modi Calls It Historic Day
In a post on X, PM Modi praised their performances and said their achievements would inspire more youngsters to take up the sport. He also extended his best wishes to both athletes for their future endeavours. Congratulating Harsh, PM Modi wrote, “Historic Day for Indian Judo! Congrats to Harsh Singh for winning a Gold. His passion and dedication are clearly reflected in the exceptional performance. Best wishes for the upcoming endeavours.”
For Dey, PM Modi wrote, “A golden performance indeed! Proud of Asmita Dey for winning a Gold in the Judo Women's 48KG Final! This performance will always be remembered and will contribute towards Judo becoming even more popular. Best wishes for her endeavours ahead.”
Dey clinched the women's -48kg gold medal after defeating Canada's Heidi Quach in a gripping final that went into Golden Score. She prevailed by Yuko (2-1) with a composed and determined display, earning India's first judo gold medal of the Games.
