Shivam Dube creates history, breaks Hardik's record; leaves Virat behind to become first Indian with rare feats

Shivam Dube became the fourth Indian in as many matches to win the Player of the Match (POTM) award in the 2026 T20 World Cup as India completed the group stage unbeaten after a 17-run victory at Ahmedabad's Narendra Modi Stadium against the Netherlands, having earlier beaten the USA, Namibia, and arch-rivals Pakistan. The star all-rounder made 66 runs off 31 balls as India posted a total of 192 on the board after Suryakumar Yadav won the toss and chose to bat. Later, he also took two wickets with the ball while giving away 35 runs in three overs.

The 32-year-old was promoted ahead of Hardik Pandya and walked out to bat at number five. He batted at a strike rate of 212.90 with four boundaries and six maximums.

Shivam Dube Creates History

Dube is the first Indian to score over 60 runs and take two wickets in a T20 World Cup match. Virat Kohli is the only other Indian to score over 60 runs in an innings in the mega event's history and also get a wicket. Meanwhile, Hardik Pandya is the only other to score a half-century and take multiple wickets in a match for the Men in Blue in the competition's 19-year history.
