Virat Kohli entered his name in the history books on Sunday (September 27) by becoming the first player in the world to score 7,000 runs in home ODIs. The right-handed batter from Delhi needed 133 runs in the first ODI of the three-match series against the West Indies to take his tally to 7,000, and he played an unbeaten knock of 139 runs off just 88 balls.

During his stay at the crease, Kohli hammered 10 fours and nine sixes and helped India chase down the target of 296 runs in just 41.4 overs for the loss of only two wickets.

The first ODI between India and the West Indies at the Greenfield International Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram was Kohli’s 131st ODI in India, and he now has 7,006 runs to his credit.

In the list of batters with the most runs in home ODIs, Kohli is followed by Sachin Tendulkar. Tendulkar played 164 ODIs in India during his 23-year-long career and scored 6,976 runs.

Before becoming the first player to score 7,000 ODI runs in home matches on Sunday, Kohli scored his 10th ODI century against the West Indies. He tops the list of players with the most ODI centuries against the Men in Maroon and is also the first player in the world to score 10 ODI centuries against two different teams.

Apart from his 10 ODI centuries against the West Indies, Kohli has scored 10 ODI centuries against Sri Lanka as well.

During his superb knock in the first ODI, which helped India secure a one-sided win, Kohli also completed 15,000 runs in ODIs. He is only the second player in the world, after Sachin Tendulkar, to score more than 15,000 runs in the 50-over format of the game.
