Jadeja on the verge of history! Just 1 wicket away from breaking Courtney Walsh's record

Veteran Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja is all set to make his return to the Indian team in India's upcoming three-match ODI series against the West Indies, which is scheduled to take place on Sunday, September 27. Jadeja will have an opportunity to make history in the match, which is set to take place at Greenfield International Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram. The 37-year-old spin-bowling all-rounder from Jamnagar would surpass legendary West Indies pacer Courtney Walsh's record of 44 wickets to become the top wicket-taker in ODIs between India and the West Indies if he can claim one wicket in the opening match against the Shai Hope-led team.

From 1985 to 1999, Walsh participated in 38 ODIs against India and claimed 44 wickets. However, in 32 ODIs, Jadeja has removed 44 West Indies batters.

Following Jadeja and Walsh on the list of bowlers with the most wickets in India-West Indies ODIs are Kapil Dev and Anil Kumble. Against the Men in Maroon, Kapil ended his ODI career with 43 wickets, while Kumble dismissed 41 batters.

Wasim Akram, a former left-arm fast bowler for Pakistan, holds the record for most wickets taken in ODIs against the West Indies. From 1985 to 2002, Akram faced the Caribbean team in 64 ODIs, dismissing 89 batters.

Muttiah Muralidaran of Sri Lanka holds the global record for taking the most ODI wickets against a single side. Muralidaran took 96 wickets in 65 one-day matches against Pakistan.

Jadeja has scored 2,905 runs in 142 innings across 210 ODIs. He last played an ODI for India against New Zealand in January 2026. To reach 3,000 runs in the 50-over format of the game, he needs to score 95 runs in the next three-match ODI series.

Only one Indian cricket player, Kapil Dev, has scored 3,000 runs and dismissed 200 batters in ODIs thus far. From 1978 to 1994, Kapil participated in 225 ODIs, scoring 3,783 runs and dismissing 253 batters.
